What Does it Mean to Take a Holistic Approach?
I have patients coming to me for all sorts of issues – back and neck pain, joint pain, sinus issues, foot problems, etc. etc. At Homberg Chiropractic we treat all of those and more. We look at the whole body – inside and out to design your plan to feel better.Misalignment of the spine is often the root cause of these problems, and after a thorough evaluation I will determine a healing approach for you. This will include a series of adjustments and likely rehabilitation exercises, supplements and suggestions for dietary changes.I cannot stress enough how important these exercises are. Chiropractic combined with physical rehabilitation are a package. I can adjust you and take care of your pain, but if you don’t stretch or strengthen the muscles surrounding the weakened area, then you are likely to deal with the same problem over and over again. I’ve had patients who come back claiming that they are not getting better, that their pain is still there. One of the first questions I ask them is ‘are you doing your exercises’? The answer is likely no.The exercise programs I give you will improve functional movement such as sitting, standing, walking and lifting. They improve muscle tone, flexibility, balance, range of motion and mobility. Think back to the early days of man. They hunted for food, they fought for survival. They didn’t work at desks so they could collect a paycheck and stop at a fast food restaurant to grab dinner on the way home. Our bodies are built to move! Muscles that are worked and stretched will get stronger.I might also talk to you about your diet. If you are living on processed foods, the inflammation levels in your body are high. There are thousands of studies that address how certain foods cause inflammation in our bodies and inflammation is the root cause of disease. Inflammation will also aggravate arthritis and other conditions. If you are overweight, this also affects your structure, especially knees and ankles, therefore you should look at making changes in your diet. To round out the holistic approach to your healthcare, I might discuss supplements for you. With poor diets, we might not be getting all of the right nutrition, making supplements that much more important.Keeping yourself healthy is about more than just one of these elements, it’s important to consider all angles to maintain optimum health.
