Don't Let the Focus on COVID Affect Your Overall Health and Wellness
At Homberg Chiropractic & Wellness we’ve been able to operate business as usual, with a few exceptions, since the beginning of COVID-19-related regulations began in Tennessee. We’ve also been fortunate that many of our patients kept their standing appointments and stayed on their path to being healthy. I’ve heard from some healthcare providers and other business owners that the focus on COVID-19 has led some people to neglect their health in other ways.
First, we saw most hospitals and physicians’ offices cancelling all non-COVID-related appointments and procedures. I understand they were preparing to be overwhelmed with coronavirus patients – something that never happened at many facilities. When offices started to re-open, many patients were still too weary to venture into them even though their health depended on it. They may have continued to put off a much-needed surgery or other procedure, fearing a hospital visit was too risky.
While people were quarantined at home, many may have suffered from anxiety because of the unknown. They might have neglected their normal diet for “comfort” food to help themselves feel better. Families were also having to figure out what to feed kids for lunch AND dinner because schools were closed. I’m not saying it’s related but I did happen to notice that grocery store freezers were out of French fries, frozen pizzas and chicken nuggets.
Having mom and dad working at home, serving in the role of both parents and teachers, and finding activities to keep their kids busy, also likely led to stress. However, once things re-opened the stressed-out parents have held off on getting a massage or returning to the gym because, you know, COVID-19 is still around.
The arrival of COVID in Tennessee also closed gyms, state parks and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. High school, college and even youth league sports were also cancelled. It was too convenient for people to cancel their exercise all together.
COVID-19 is still around. Case numbers are increasing. They had to because you knew as people started to venture out and about, the case numbers would rise. But please don’t let that affect your overall health, keep those appointments with healthcare providers. If that provider happens to be Homberg Chiropractic & Wellness, we will see you in the office.
