Some people think that when a woman is pregnant, she should stop with regular chiropractic care, but this is not true. Chiropractors are trained to work with pregnant women, and some have additional training in pre-natal and post-natal care.

When adjusting a pregnant woman, I will use techniques that avoid unneeded pressure on the abdomen. I can also provide her with exercises and stretches that are safe to practice during the pregnancy.

During pregnancy, women experience a protruding abdomen and increased back curve, pelvic changes and posture changes. When the pelvis is misaligned, it may reduce the amount of space for the developing baby and make it difficult for the baby to get into the best position for a delivery. Establishing pelvic balance and alignment is very important during the pregnancy.

Chiropractic also is huge in supporting a healthy nervous system, and the nervous system is the master communication system for all body functions, including the reproductive system. Keeping the spine aligned helps the entire body work more effectively.

Regular chiropractic care during pregnancy also can help with controlling symptoms of nausea, reducing the time of labor and delivery, relieving back, neck and joint pain and lead to an overall healthier pregnancy.
