Headaches

There is a root to every problem. It’s the same with aches and pains in our body, we have them for a reason, there is a root cause. Headaches are no exception. I had a patient come in recently complaining of low back pain, she also casually mentioned that she has frequent headaches. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again . . . headaches are not normal! The misalignment of her spine was causing her low back pain and her headaches. Once we corrected the misalignment through adjustments, therapy and exercise her frequent headaches disappeared as did her low back pain. Many of you realize that when your sinuses are swollen, they can put pressure on your teeth causing pain in your teeth (root cause). Therefore, with misalignment, it can lead to muscle contractions causing spasms and pain in areas that are in the area of the spasms.Misalignment may not be the only issue, the issue could also be a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, drug reactions, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), tightness in the neck muscles, low blood sugar, high blood pressure, stress and fatigue. I can’t stress enough how important it is to keep your chart updated so that we have all of the information we need in order to treat you. If you are on medication and it’s been changed or you’ve started taking a new one, it’s extremely important that you let us know this when you come in for your appointment. Each case is different and requires a thorough evaluation before a proper course of treatment can be determined. However, in most cases of tension headaches, significant improvement is accomplished through manipulation of the upper two cervical vertebrae, coupled with adjustments to the junction between the cervical and thoracic spine. This is also helpful in most cases of migraine headaches, as long as food and lifestyle triggers are avoided as well.Remember, headaches are not normal and if you are having them on a frequent basis, another problem most likely exists.
