Run on Over to Homberg Chiropractic
I treat a fair number of runners on a regular basis. Around this time of the year I’m seeing patients who are training for everything from a 5k to a marathon. Chiropractic care is a therapeutic and preventive health measure used by many runners to achieve lasting health results, improve performance, and prevent common running injuries.Wearing the wrong shoes, improper training techniques, poor biomechanics and soft tissue problems are among the most common causes of chronic musculoskeletal problems in runners. Some of the common problems I see are shin splints, ankle sprains, Achilles tendonitis, runner’s knee, stress fractures and pain on the bottom of the foot.I can treat running injuries by correcting joint or soft tissue problems in the affected area and identifying the root of the injury – poor technique, improper footwear, etc. Joint manipulation, therapeutic taping and stretching exercises help treat the injury. Not only do all of the joints in the body have to move correctly, they also need to move in coordination with the soft tissue. When treating runners, I will want to evaluate their bio-mechanics including how they move, how they stand, what the arches of the feet look like, and how the knees and hips are aligned. I will take into account the needs of the specific patient to decide which techniques will be best to help the body regenerate healthy cells in order to activate the healing mechanisms.
