Yard Shoes

With the warm weather we’ve had recently, everybody wants to be outdoors. Trees need pruning, flower beds need weeding and soon the yard will need mowing. You’re probably thinking that next I will tell you to be sure to stretch – well, yes, it is important to stretch and not just go out there bending and squatting with cold muscles. But, that’s not the topic of this blog. It is just as important to make sure you are wearing the right shoes to work in the yard.I have to laugh at advertisements I see for “garden” shoes. More often than not, these are clogs . . . clogs! News flash – clogs are not suitable for the garden or the yard or even every day wear for that matter. For gardening or working in the flower bed, you want to wear a sturdy, supportive shoe. Chances are, your yard is not even and it is best to prevent injury to wear shoes that will support your feet and ankles. In addition to shoes being supportive and sturdy, you also want them to have good traction. Even if your yard is devoid of hills, it can have the stray clump of clay that is just waiting for you to trip over.Consider investing in a good pair of hiking shoes or boots that you can wear when doing your yard work. They include support and good traction and are ideal for wearing in the yard and garden.
