On The Road To Better Health

It’s that time of year again, when we all start to make those New Year’s resolutions. More often than not, they include the resolve to ‘get in shape,’ but realistically how long does that last? Instead of pledging to work out more, get in shape, etc., why not commit to making small lifestyle changes. These small changes can add up and ultimately lead to being in better shape and healthier! Here are few things you can do, none of them drastic that will help you on the road to better health:

  • Keep a water bottle with you at all times. Keep it at your desk, take it in the car with you and have it handy at home. Staying hydrated helps us from getting hungry and among other things keeps our sinuses moist to help prevent respiratory illnesses.
  • Get up and move! You don’t have to run a marathon, or even a 5K, just move. Many people have desk jobs that keep them in a chair for eight-plus hours a day. Make sure to get up and move every 30 minutes to an hour. Take the printer out of your office and keep it in a commons area, this will force you to get up and walk. Take stretch breaks throughout the day – stretch your arms, your neck and shoulder muscles and bend down to touch your toes. Consider packing your lunch and spending part of your lunch break on a walk around the building.
  • As for the lunch, that’s a full blog series, but I will touch on a few things. Try to eat organic food and snacks as much as possible and try to stay away from processed foods. A lunch of lean protein and vegetables will help you get through the rest of the day. Keep healthy nuts at your desk so you can eat them when you are craving a snack.

These small steps can lead to overall lifestyle changes and an overall healthier you!!Happy New Year!
